In Search of the Gaper-Blabber by Nathan, age 10

Chapter 1
Betrayed friend

Ben wore gentlemen’s clothes, a black suit that came with a tie. His wish was to be rich. Ben was looking for a secret, an ancient powerful thing called a Gaper-Blabber. He needed it to power his clone machine.

Ben jumped around the hotel lobby and threw daggers and marbles all over the place. The things stuck to his assistant’s sweaty body. His assistant was named Fluffy and he tripped over the marbles still on the floor. Fluffy got up and slipped down to the floor again. He jumped up and landed on the ground, and walked out the exit with Ben. They walked across the street to the Grand Mountain and they climbed to the top. They felt the ground shaking. Fluffy tried to balance, but he fell and rolled down the mountain. Every time Fluffy bounced on the ground he burped and spit out food and grew bigger, two feet taller with each burp. When Fluffy climbed back up the mountain, he fell back down.

Chapter 2
Mountain Trouble

As Fluffy rolled down the mountain he crushed Ben by accident. Ben was now flattened like a piece of paper. The wind blew and Fluffy returned to his normal size and Ben turned back to normal too. “Shut up Fluffy,” Ben said. They looked around the foot of the mountain for the Gaper-Blabber.

Chapter 3
The Gaper-Blabber

Ben and Fluffy were still at the bottom of the mountain, and it was foggy down there. Dark clouds came and made everywhere unseeable.

Zombies came out of nowhere. Their wrinkled skin fell off in blobs, their red eyes stung Ben’s skin like lasers and they walked towards Ben with their hands straight out in front of them. Ben and Fluffy tried to shoot them all, but it was very hard to kill them because there were too many of them. Fluffy found a machine gun on the ground next to a skeleton of a dead soldier. Fluffy picked up the gun and gave it to Ben. Fluffy threw his pistol at one of the zombie’s heads and a slice of its scalp fell off. He used the machine gun and fired the bullets rapidly at the zombies.

Ben and Fluffy looked for the Gaper-Blabber in the castle behind the Gate of Fate. The Gate of Fate was black and two bushes grew on each side of it. Behind the gate there were mysterious creatures.

The Gaper-Blabber was a type of blue gem. Its value was 98,467,998 dollars. The Gaper-Blabber was the rarest thing in the world. It could turn you into a maniac, give you good liver function and lots of Mana, but the most important thing was that the Gaper-Blabber would fuel Ben’s clone machine. They had to find it, then activate it with bone ingredients.

Chapter 4
The Castle

Ben and Fluffy entered the castle behind the gate. Ghosts appeared in front of them in the hallway. The phantoms carried lamps in there hands. Their blue eyes glowed like fire.

Ben and Fluffy found the Gaper-Blabber. It sat on a small red cushion in the center of the Room of Traps. Daggers hung from the ceiling. Two warrior statues were standing beside the Gaper-blabber. The room was dark. Small, slimy creatures in bowls sat on tables.

They saw a skeleton appear in front of them. It took out two swords and charged at them. Fluffy saw a rope and a stick on the ground and gave them to Ben. The skeleton smelled bad because it was dumped in the junkyard. It came to the castle because it wanted to live there, and train like a warrior. There was a training camp at the back of the castle. When the skeleton charged at Ben and Fluffy, they dodged it. Ben and fluffy distracted the skeleton and threw sticks at his head. The skeleton went dizzy. Ben and Fluffy stole the swords from the skeleton’s hand and they sliced it up. Ben and Fluffy got their first bone ingredients.

They put the bones in a black pot. Then they poured the slimy creatures into the pot and stirred in red, yellow and blue dye. They poured the mixture into the Gaper-blabber. Now their mission was complete. They had the fuel for Ben’s clone machine.

How to Destroy a Table

Step 1: Get an iron hammer.

Step 2: Get a metal chair.

Step 3: Get a heavy barbell.

Step 4: Get a table.

Step 5: Whack the table with the hammer. This will make a bump and a scratch.

Step 6: If that doesn’t work, try using the chair.

Step 7: If that doesn’t work, use the heavy barbell.

Step 8: Bring the table out onto sidewalk.

Step 9: Go upstairs to the top floor of your building and lean out the window and drop the barbell down onto the table.

Step 10: It will make a lot of damage.

Step 11: Check to see if the table is broken.

Step 12: If it’s still not broken, then go onto an airplane and crash into the table. This will mean suicide, but the table will be broken for sure.

Nails

If worms were germs,
then bugs would be slugs
If snails were nails,
then whales would be pails
If paper were glaciers,
then ice would be lice
If floods were guts,
then eyes would be fried,
and they would be crunchy
and it would be
hard
to see

Nathan

My American name is Nathan. It means “gift from the gods.” My father and my mother chose this name because they like the “th” sound. I like my name because I like to imagine I’m a gift from the gods and if someone unwrapped me I would be a toy gun. My Chinese name is Cheng Huan. It means “responsibility and see into the future.” It also means “happy, superior, successful and Chinese tradition.” My mother chose this name because she liked these ideas. I like this name because it reminds me of funerals. People who can see into the future know when everyone’s going to die.

Future Wars by Edmund, age 8 & Nathan, age 9

One hundred years in the future…

The Aliens used their scanner to scan Earth to see if there were real living people on the planet.

“The aliens are heading towards the satellite, use the super searchlight,” Captain Nathan said. He heard DJ music and found out that his soldiers were dancing like ballerinas.

“Stop dancing, you nincompoops!” yelled Captain Nathan. “Get started!”

“Get started on what?” said one of the troops.

“Did you even hear me?” Captain Nathan grabbed a pie from a table. “Eat pie troops!” He threw the pie and it hit one of the soldiers and slipped down his face.

“Oh,” said one of the troops. “Now I remember. Use the super searchlight.” All the troops ran to the searchlight.

“I don’t see an alien,” said Sergeant Edmund.

A minute later, a bell rang in the town. It meant the aliens were coming. They came parachuting down.

“Quickly, eat your hotdogs,” ordered Captain Nathan. The troops ate all their hotdogs then burped really loud. This made the parachutes pop. Spaceships zoomed through the sky.

“Hurry to the space pick-up!” said Captain Nathan. The pick-up threw rockets at the alien spaceships, but the spaceships made it to the ground.

“Charge!” said a glowing alien.

“AAAHHH!” said Captain Nathan.

One minute later, the soldiers yelled, “AAAHHH!”

“Stop!” yelled Captain Nathan. “We’re at the gun shack. Get your guns and hurry back.” The soldiers got their weapons.

“Charge!” yelled Captain Nathan.

“Stop!” yelled Sergeant Edmund. “Who built the gun shack so far away?”

“Well,” said a soldier, “if the gun shack was so—“

“Can you shoot the aliens already!” interrupted Captain Nathan.

The troops’ missile car dashed passed them. It shot its missiles at the aliens. KABOOM! The aliens were dead.

“That was a quick battle,” said one of the troops.

But it was just the beginning.

My name is Nathan. I am nine years old. I live with my dad, mom and my sister. I like to play videogames. When I grow up I want to be a videogame creator. If I could be an animal I would be a rabbit because they are cute and cuddly. Some day I want to be good at ring tossing. I used to be afraid of zombies because I had dreams about them, but not anymore. Now I have dreams about making friends with computers and I laugh when I sleep. I am also the author of Random and Sparrow and About my Dad.

Random and Sparrow by Nathan, age 9

The leader teases Sparrow and hits him in the stomach. That’s why Sparrow wants to get payback. They live in a desert full of scorpions.

The leader says to Random, “Be my slave and if you don’t, then I will say you must die!” The leader is half human, half monster.

Sparrow and Random are brothers, but not anymore because Random betrayed Sparrow. Random betrayed Sparrow by working for the leader. Random thought Sparrow didn’t work hard enough to escape from being the leader’s slave.

Sparrow has green eyes and Random has red eyes and they wear different kinds of clothes.

Sparrow kills Random. He uses a magic sword. His magic sword has light powers and sun energy. Random’s body has meat inside and his face is red and wrinkled and his mouth is open.

The leader sees that Random is dead. The leader can close his eyes and see all over the place. He saw Sparrow kill Random. So the leader sends out his ten best spies to start attacking Sparrow. The spies are called Longoatsters. They wear capes over their muscular shoulders. When they walk in the woods they see Sparrow hiding behind some rocks. Sparrow doesn’t know what to do.

Powerful weapons come out of the Longoatsers’ bodies. The weapons look like metal orbs. When the Longoatsters rub their hands on them, the orbs get bigger and bigger. When the orbs are big, they throw them. When Sparrow sees it, it reminds him of a robot. It smells like toxic chemicals that can poison you to death. It tastes like nothing, nothing at all because it is clean.

The Longoatsters don’t know that Sparrow has a strong and powerful sword. When the sword swings, it shoots out light. Sparrow shines it at the Longoatsters’ eyes. They die because the light has poison in it.
